Between 1946 and 1970, the U.S. Geological Survey says that about 48,000 drums of low-level radioactive waste were put in the water around the islands. No one was allowed to go to the Farallon anymore; only a few protection scientists were able to get in. It’s still not clear where the trash cans are right now and what kind of damage they might be doing to the earth.
