Mitchell Miner, 15 years old, and his cow Audri just took part in the Iowa State Fair dairy kettle show. Even though they worked hard and tried their best, they only came in fifth out of seven.
When they were both tired, they took a nap together. The boy’s father came in and took a picture of them cuddling. The picture was shared with the caption “Our son Mitchell and his heifer after showing yesterday.” It went viral right away, and by the next day, it had more than 15,000 likes. Laura Miner, the boy’s mother, told the Des Moines Register, “I think when you spend that much time with them, they get really comfortable.” She and her husband both grew up on farms, but now that they live in a different places, they want their kids to know where they came from.
So, the family borrows animals for the summer so that her children can experience what it’s like to live on a farm. Mitchell’s dad, Jeremy Miner, said, “The farm taught us a lot.” “We were raised with these values, and we’re doing what we can to keep them alive.” Audri, the cow who likes to sleep, will go back to the dairy farm when the shows end in September.
