The artist does exact math People can’t take their eyes off of how long Godzilla’s legs are when they’re in the water.

In an interesting turn of creativity, an artist who goes by the name “Bro, don’t like that la, bro” asked and tried to answer a funny question with their art: “How does Godzilla stand in the ocean?” This creative work picked up speed when “Godzilla Minus One,” a movie celebrating the 69th anniversary of the famous monster movie series, came out.1 The movie did amazingly well at the box office, making over $100 million. It also made it onto the shortlist for Best Visual Effects at the Oscars.

The artist got the idea from a mistake shot in the movie “Godzilla: King of the Monsters.” Ernest Ng, who makes webcomics, was interested in the scene where Godzilla fires his plasma breath into the sky.2 Ernest then set out to figure out how Godzilla was able to stay on top of the (very deep) waves in the ocean.

Even though the art has become more popular since the movie came out, it’s important to remember that these pictures were released a few years ago. The artist posted the picture along with a note that made fun of a point made by their friend Dan Khoo: “Maybe the real problem is that I think too much.” Ernest Ng, who had seen how Godzilla was portrayed in movies before, came up with some creative ways that Godzilla was keeping things going.

People on Reddit had a lot to say about the artist’s work. They couldn’t help but wonder how useful it would be to have a monster that breathes fire and has very long legs. “Whoa dude, he could be a Victoria’s Secret model,” said one witty note. The conversation became more silly as people talked about made-up situations involving Godzilla’s swimming skills and the science behind his buoyancy. People were jokingly guessing what Godzilla’s “stumpy lil lizard legs” had to do with making ocean waves.

Asking Godzilla a Question

As some people liked to give silly answers about Godzilla’s powers, others tried to question other parts of the king of monsters. We should probably have a little fun with possible plot holes in physics if we’re going to question a huge lizard breathing blue flame. More creative ideas say that Godzilla is good at swimming, diving, and even floating, since his “big tummy” acts as a buoy. While “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” did well at the box office, reviews have been mixed. Rotten Tomatoes gives the movie a 39% rating, saying that critics think the movie relies too much on cutting-edge effects and not enough on a gripping story. Even if that is true, the main reason to see a Kaiju movie would be the images rather than the story, if only one had to be picked. But the Guardian’s review goes even further, calling the movie “utterly graceless” and pointing out problems with the sound design, visual effects, and speech.

At the very least, Godzilla’s ability to stand in water has made people more interested in and talked about the famous monster. Since the monster’s fame has been rising again in the last ten years, it’s great to hear critical thoughts from both fans and artists. May Godzilla continue to amaze people all over the world for many years to come.
