The couple says the restaurant fined them for “poor parenting.” The owner of the restaurant then tells them the truth.

A mountain restaurant speaks out about bad behaviour among kids

The Toccoa Riverside Restaurant, which is just outside of Blue Ridge and surrounded by the peaceful mountains of North Georgia, has come up with a new way to deal with noisy children. A “Parenting Surcharge” has been added by the business for parents who can’t control their kids’ behaviour, which has caused a lot of argument online.

The extra fee for bad kids has gotten mixed reactions.

A recent online review from a diner revealed a surprise twist to their bill: a $50 increase due to their children’s behaviour. This caused a lot of debate among the online community. Tim Richter, the owner of the restaurant, said that he knew about the fee and that it was put in place as a response to the pandemic. For some reason, though, this fee wasn’t actually charged until after a very hectic visit from a big family.

What locals and tourists think about the controversial policy

With its beautiful location by the river, the restaurant is used to busy people. Still, guests like Laura Spillman from Florida say they can’t believe such a rule exists, pointing out the natural charm of children. On the other hand, customers like Anne Cox like the idea that the fee might teach the younger eaters how to behave properly in public. Since Federico Gambineri eats out with his young child, the thought of being charged extra for his child’s behaviour is very scary.

The community has a say in how to enforce manners.

Jack Schneider, a regular customer, hasn’t seen the fee yet, but he gets why people want a quiet meal. He makes it clear that parents are responsible for making sure their kids are polite in public places.

The Toccoa Riverside Restaurant sticks by its choice. It wants to remind parents of their duties without getting in the way of the peaceful dining experience it wants to provide in North Georgia’s beautiful scenery.
