Tiktok user healthyish.autumn has been documenting the family of sandhill cranes known as Carl. Carl is a neighbour of Autumn’s and a frequent visitor to her garden; this year, hundreds of thousands of viewers joined her in watching Carl raise his son Kevin.
Therefore, Autumn knew she had to save Carl when he got into difficulty.

One day, Autumn observed that Carl was hobbling because he had fishing line wrapped around his foot. Carl had trouble moving since his fishing line had become twisted and was cutting off his circulation.
Monofilament fishing line is exceptionally strong and won’t snap easily. Shorebirds and other creatures frequently become entangled in it. Carl’s bad luck continued as the fishing line was not going to untangle itself.
As a result, Autumn sought assistance from the Raptor Centre of Tampa Bay.

Lynn, the town’s “sandhill crane whisperer,” lied to Carl and his family for hours in the rain to earn their trust. After waiting for hours, Lynn was able to capture Carl without the aid of tranquillizers or nets.
Lynn successfully untangled Carl’s foot from the fishing line. They were able to reunite him with his loved ones after she took out the line, cleansed the area, administered antibiotics and electrolytes, and then bandaged the incision.
In an instant, Carl felt better. After she cut the fishing line, he started to walk with much less of a limp and it only got better from there. Autumn’s most recent report says that Carl’s foot is nearly fully recovered.
She also addresses some frequently asked issues regarding Carl. Since sandhill cranes are a protected species, Autumn doesn’t give Carl any food or pet him. But she does let him and his family stay in her garden, and she keeps an eye on them.
The changing of the seasons serves as a great reminder that we must treat our local wildlife with kindness and compassion. Her prompt action after Carl became entangled allowed him to recover swiftly and return to his family, but other animals may not be so fortunate.
