The Carabellos were concerned about the reactions of their new neighbours in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, when they moved their big family into a new home. They not only met new people and made some friends throughout town, but they also added a new addition to their family. Paul Callahan, the 82-year-old widower next door, offered to help the new homeowners with whatever repairs or renovations they wanted to make. He quickly settled in as a regular part of their routine.
“The kids run up to him like that’s their grandfather,” Sharaine, the children’s mother, told USA Today. Paul is most assuredly a part of the family. He’s no longer a neighbour, so don’t call him that.
Paul not only stops over almost daily to lend a hand with the kids, but he is also invited to every party and event. He’s happy he made an effort to meet his neighbours.
Not taking a gamble could cause you to lose a friend, Paul warned.
