Some might see Meghan Markle as a former royal who left the British monarchy to start a new life “back home” in the United States. While the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry had a couple of good years working at The Firm, the California-born woman had a pretty great acting career before she became the Duchess and got all the responsibilities that came with it.

Meghan’s part as Rachel on the hit show Suits made her a star. She pretty much grew up in show business, and as her fame grew, she did things like write a blog and do charity work on the side.

But Meghan Markle was headed in a different direction before she met Harry. In fact, she and her friend were about to start doing what they had always wanted to do: open a very special store.

Meghan Markle was born in Los Angeles, California on August 4, 1981.

Her father, Thomas Markle, was a lighting director who had won an Emmy and brought her into show business when she was young. Meghan was able to join her father on set many times.

She went to Los Angeles’s all-girls Immaculate Heart High School, which was very different from being on set.

“I was on the set of Married with Children every day after school for 10 years,” Meghan said. “It was a funny and strange place for a little girl in a Catholic school uniform to grow up.”

“My dad would often tell me, ‘Meg, why don’t you go help out in the craft services room over there? This is not really appropriate for your 11-year-old eyes.”

Meghan strongly desired to make the world a better place, even as a child. But when she was 11, she saw an ad for a dish soap only for women, which upset her.

She said, “I do not think it is good for kids to grow up thinking that Mom does everything.”

Her father backed her desire to make things better and helped her write to famous people, like Hillary Clinton, hoping they could help. The soap company changed its motto from “Women All Over America” to “People All Over America” a few days later.

Meghan Markle went to Northwestern University to study speech because she was interested in show business. She says she has always wanted to act but “hated the idea of being this stereotypical girl from LA who decides to be an actress.”

Later, she moved to Illinois to attend the prestigious Evanston school and major in theater and foreign relations.

Markle thought she might enter politics after working at the US Embassy in Argentina. But she always wanted to be in the stage, even though her first job in show business was not all that great.

Markle tried out for shows while still in school, but her first job was as a bag girl on the game show Deal or No Deal.

Meghan Markle told Esquire, “I was the unfortunate number 26, which no one would ever pick.” “I would end up standing there for hours in these cheap five-inch heels that hurt my feet so much, just waiting for my number to be called so I could sit down.”

Soon after that, she started to act in plays and movies, getting small parts in movies like “Get Him to the Greek” and “Remember Me” and on the TV show “General Hospital.” But in 2011, she got the role of lawyer Rachel Zane on the USA smash hit Suits, and everything changed.

“I have worked on so many shows that were never shown, and at the time, we did not know what Suits would become. So it is been a very smooth change! We were in such a bubble the first year because the show did not air in Canada. When we are shooting, there are security guards, police, fans, and tears. It is been such a wild ride for all of us! Since they asked us to stay for seven seasons, we will be there for at least a couple more years. “Toronto has been great to us,” Meghan said in 2017 to Glamour.

Up until 2018, Meghan played Rachel Zane on the TV show Suits. When she married Prince Harry, her life changed again that year.

People thought it would change Meghan Markle’s life for good at the time, since she was about to start working full-time as a senior part of the royal family.

So, the author of Suits, Arron Koorsh, wrote Meghan out of the show as a safety measure before she moved to the UK with Harry.

“We chose to say, ‘Look, I would rather good things happen in Meghan’s life,’ which probably meant that she would leave the show. So let us plan on that, and if it comes to it, it would be much easier to change our minds than if we just planned on her staying forever and then found out she was leaving. And the only way to do that to a character would be to have them get hit by a bus or something,” Korsh said.

Meghan Markle has worked in the entertainment business for most of her life, even when she was not a royal family member. She recently said that even she has noticed how media and technology have changed the industry.

Meghan Markle told Variety that the business has changed “quite a bit” since she left it, just a few weeks after Queen Elizabeth II died. At first, she did not think she would ever return to show business again, but it is safe to say that new media has changed her mind.

“But streamers have changed everything; they have changed the society as a whole. We can not make zeitgeist moments like we did in the 1990s when everyone watched the same show at the same time or came together for one moment. When I was in Suits, that character, Rachel Zane, was in your living room while you were in your pajamas eating Chinese food. “That is how connected it felt at the time,” she said.

“But it takes something different to make a cultural moment or conversation today. In this way, podcasting has been very interesting. It could be one of the last places where people can be alone and listen. Where else would you get that chance?” Meghan kept going and said that she would never act again.

Meghan Markle became well-known because of the TV show “Suits,” and acting was her main job at many important points in her life. But the now-mother-of-two has worked on several other projects at the same time. Her dream job was almost a reality but far from any stage or film studio.

Meghan Markle’s lifestyle magazine, The Tig, was up and running for three years before she closed it in 2017. It was a private blog where the Duchess, now the Duchess of Cambridge, wrote about all kinds of things and shared things about herself that probably would have never been made public. For example, she does not like romance books that are made up and she loves hot sauce very much. Also, in a post from 2014, Meghan Markle gave people a glimpse into her private life when she said that her self-doubt made her 20s a “brutal” nightmare.

Meghan wrote, “A constant battle with myself, judging my weight, my style, and my need to be as cool/hip/smart/whatever as everyone else.”

“My teens were even worse. I had a hard time fitting in and figuring out what that meant. There were groups of Black and White girls, Filipino and Latina girls, and Black and White girls. Being of mixed race, I was somewhere in the middle.”

Meghan Markle always wanted to open a candy store.

The Duchess also said, “I was probably 24 when a casting director looked at me during an audition and said, “You need to know that you are enough. Less makeup, and more Meghan. You need to know that you are enough.’ A chant that has become so ingrained in me that I can not go a day without hearing it in my head.

She had another plan before Meghan Marle started writing at The Tig in 2012. TMZ got some legal papers that show Meghan tried to register a trademark for a business idea she had called Lali. The business would sell lollipops and drops. They gave up on the idea two years later, so the candy shop did not happen.

The Duchess is known for caring a lot about food. Even though her dreams of making candy did not work out, maybe something will change.

Meghan told Good Housekeeping about how much she loves cooking and having dinner parties.

She said the roasted chicken she and Harry made when he asked her to marry him changed the game.

She said, “Nothing is as tasty or impressive as a perfectly roasted chicken. It changes everything. I bring it to dinner parties and make a lot of friends.” Meghan said, and she also said that her fridge is always full of hummus and carrots.

“Strangely enough, I love them, and so does my dog Bogart. I make green juice, almond milk, and chia seed pudding every week. So simple and so good. I love to cook so much.”
