In 1946, Richard C. Miller, a talented photographer, asked a pin-up girl from the American Armed Forces to stand for a photo shoot. He didn’t know yet, though, that his 19-year-old swimsuit model, Norma Jeane Dougherty, would go on to become Marilyn Monroe, the world’s most famous actor.
Richard said that when he took the beautiful pictures of Norma when she was still brunette, he had no idea how important they would become. “She was just a sweet, pretty pin-up model with big dreams,” he said.
On October 7, Santa Monica Auctions will sell off all of his old photos, which are worth somewhere between $60,000 and $80,000. Marilyn wearing a wedding dress from her first marriage will be one of the most interesting things about the photos that will be sold.
