There is a reason why someone would wear these shoes.
People who are blind or have low vision often have trouble finding their way around in today’s busy and fast-paced world.
The good news is that advances in technology have made their lives a lot better.
Aside from standard aids like canes and service animals, an Austrian company called Tech-Innovation has now come up with a new way to help people. They have made shoes with a sensor that vibrates or makes noises to warn the user of things that might be in the way.
The item is called InnoMake and has sensors that turn on when they sense objects up to four metres away and at least half a metre away.
These sensors are inside the shoe in a special compartment. They are driven by a rechargeable battery that can be fully charged in three hours and lasts for about a week.
Along with the shoes and sensor, there is a free app that lets users change many settings, such as how far away from things they want to be triggered.
Are you worried about bad weather?
The sensors are waterproof because that’s how they were made. In addition, an intelligent mode turns off the monitor when the user is sitting down and turns it back on when it senses movement.
In some shops across Austria, people who want to buy the shoes can try them on first. This discovery is a big step forward in making the lives of people who are blind or have low vision better.
