Introducing the Last Stone Age Tribe: A Look into the Isolated Civilization of North Sentinel Island

There is a native group called the Sentinelese that lives on North Sentinel Island in the Bay of Bengal in the northeastern Indian Ocean. People think of them as one of the last uncontacted groups in the world, and they strongly oppose any contact with people from other places. The Indian government has made North Sentinel Island a tribal reserve and made it illegal to travel within 3 nautical miles (5.6 kilometers) of it. There is also an armed patrol in the seas around the island to keep outsiders from getting in. It is also illegal to take pictures.

The Sentinelese have lived on North Sentinel Island for about 60,000 years and are thought to be related to the first people who left Africa. The exact number of people living there is unknown, but it is thought to be between 80 and 150. They live a hunter-gatherer way of life similar to that of the Stone Age, without farming.

The Sentinelese have always refused to engage with people from other worlds, and they are known for being hostile toward them. People who have come close to or landed on the island have been killed. No one knows what language they speak, and not much is known about their society or way of life. They are known to live in temporary houses with open sides or to build big huts where many people can live together. They also use narrow boats that look like canoes and can only be used in shallow water.

The Sentinelese may have chosen to stay alone because of bad situations with outsiders in the past. In the late 20th century, the Indian government tried to get in touch with the Sentinelese, but the people who lived on the island would usually respond by firing a barrage of weapons from the shore. One time, in the 1970s, a spear hit the director of a National Geographic show about the Andamans while he was recording. Because the Sentinelese live alone, they are not very immune to common diseases like the flu or measles. If they come into contact with outsiders, these diseases could wipe out their entire community.

Finally, the Sentinelese are a native group that has lived on North Sentinel Island for around 60,000 years. They live a hunter-gatherer lifestyle and strongly oppose any touch with people from other places. The Indian government has taken steps to protect their privacy and stop strangers from getting in. Even though not much is known about their culture or way of life, they may have chosen to stay away from outsiders because they have had bad experiences with them in the past and are afraid that touch with others will hurt their health and way of life. It is important to honor their wish not to be contacted so that they can continue to live as a separate society and people. Do you want me to look up anything else? Tell me!
