Willie Nelson talks about his scary health scare – “there’s nothing funny about that”

Well-known country music star Willie Nelson recently talked about a scary health problem he had while on tour with his band.

Even though he is 90 years old, Nelson still tours the United States with the Nelson Family band. This shows how dedicated he is to his singing.

During a tour last year, he had to make the tough choice to cancel the band’s main show at Jazz Fest after learning that a member of the Willie Nelson Family Band had tested positive for COVID-19. Surprisingly, it turned out that Nelson had actually caught the bug.

Nelson woke up in the middle of the night on his tour bus, fighting to breathe. He was in for a scary experience. A rapid PCR test proved what he thought: he had, in fact, caught COVID-19. Because of his age, the situation was even worse because he was more likely to get the virus.

Annie, Willie’s wife, told him about the steps they took to help him get better. It was on the bus with me. At that point, I started everything I could, even Paxlovid. The monoclonal antibodies were in him. “He was on steroids,” she told Country Music TV. In the end, they turned their Spicewood, Texas, home into a makeshift hospital and got a whole medical unit to keep an eye on his healing.

Annie told the story of this stressful turn of events and said, “There were a couple of times when I wasn’t sure he was going to make it.” Nelson had a hard time getting better, but after six days, he was strong enough to go back on stage. After only two weeks off, he started performing again with shows in New Braunfels, Texas.

When asked about the scary event, Nelson kept his usual wit, saying, “COVID ain’t nothing to laugh at, that’s for sure.”

After the scary COVID scare, Willie Nelson and his Family Band kept performing. In September, they went to the Farm Aid 2022 Music Festival in Raleigh, North Carolina.
